"Who are you?"'s And "What is this?"'s

Hello! We are Grace and Greta Rickauer. Together, we are participating in the 2020 Great Cycle Challenge! Last year, we both did the 2019 challenge and rode for a young girl named Nat. This year, we are forming an alliance and biking together in remeberance for Nat and in support for all the other young cancer fighters. Our goal is to raise twice as much money and bike even further. Both Grace and Greta are in high school, and want to support the change in getting rid of childrens cancer.

So what is the Great Cycle Challenge? Well, it's a challenge to fight childrens cancer. Many children pass away each WEEK from cancer, and there has to be a way to stop it. Children should be living life, not fighting for it. Throughout the year, riders raise money for cancer research. They can set their own goals, and update them if they end up reaching it! Then, in the month of June, they have just that month to log miles for awareness or rememberance. Again, riders can set their own mile goals, and update them as they see fit. They can participate in a team with their friends or family, and bike either outdoors- mountain or road- or on a stationary. As long as you pedal and log miles, your all set! The whole point is to raise awareness and get a good bike in. If you want to learn more about the challenge, go to the About page.

2019

In 2019, Grace and Greta raised over $2,000 combined. We spent almost everyday in June biking to raise awareness for childrens cancer. It was a wonderful experience, and people would often comment on our jerseys. Both Grace and Greta rode in memory for Natathia, a young girl who passed away from her cancer just as the challenge was starting. Although she was always at the hospital, Nat remained positive about her situation. She told her mom that “if she passed, that she hoped that in some way, she would still be able to help raise awareness and help others who were in the same situation she was in,” Katy said. Although Nat is no longer physically with us, she still remains in our mind and heart. Even though we are riding to support other kids in the future, Nat will always be someone we ride in memory for. Throughout the month of June, we both rode over 250 miles together. Everytime we went out on a bike, we made sure to wear our 2019 GCC jersey to raise awareness in what we were doing. We only did one community ride, which not many people turned up for. In 2020, we hope to get out and do more with the community.
