UPCross Begins The 2019 Season

How This Affects Racers

Racers either beginning to race cyclocross, or returning racers, are training hard for this upcoming season. There is plenty to learn and get ready for in order to compete at the professional level. Some of the racers are even getting ready for the wolrd class championships taking place in Waterloo, Wisconsin. For more information about what the year has in store for these racers, click here.

How To Get Started

For many new racers, getting started in cyclocross can be difficult. There are many people in the area that can provide help on how to train or pick out the best bike. For some interested bikers, however, there isn't a local cyclocross race like there is in the UP. Therefore, there is no one to ask for help. A fan favorite website and company, the Global Cycling Network, provides information such as bike maintanence, what bike to purchase, training for the sport, and other such resources. You can access the Global Cycling Network here for more information.

Northern Lights

What Are They?

The northern lights are a natural phenomena that occur during both the night and the day time. They come in all types of colors, but ,mostly are green. For a gallery of the Northern Lights, click here. The colors apprear from when the sun sends heat through its sun spots, and it hits the earth. Because the earth has a magentic field that protects it from getting blown up, the heat travels to the poles and creates these colors. They are more visible the closer you are to one of the poles because that is where the heat travels.

Because the nothern lights are only visible in the night, there are some times of the year where they are more visible than others. Bellow is a table showing the best times to view the norther lights.
